The number of human trafficking victims are continuing to increase across the state of Texas. They estimate that 79,000 minors are being trafficked in the sex trade industry in the lone star state.

The FBI and agencies of the Houston Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance partnered with Governor Rick Perry, Mayor Anise Parker, U.S. Congressman Ted Poe, Texas State Representative Senfronia Thompson, United Against Human Trafficking, Polaris Project, the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas (OAAT), and member companies Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising to launch today’s event at Houston’s City Hall.

THE PROBLEM OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING

in brazil

  • Women and girls from other South American countries, including Paraguay, are exploited in sex trafficking in Brazil. Child sex tourism remains a problem, particularly in resort and coastal areas; many child sex tourists are from Europe.
  • The higher child prostitution rates are in the north and northeast regions. Brazilian women and transgender are found in sex trafficking abroad, often in Western Europe, Italy and Spain.
  • Brazilian men, and to lesser extent women and children, are subjected to labor slavery and debt bondage in rural areas, including in ranching, agriculture, charcoal production, log- ging, and mining.
  • Major sporting eventssuch as the Olympicsprovide both an opportunity to raise aware- ness about human trafficking as well as a challenge to identify trafficking victims. Govern- ments and civil society, can collaborate to combat trafficking by launching media cam- paigns, training event volunteers, to recognize indicators of human trafficking and to iden- tify victims.

BRAZILIAN WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE EMPLOYED AS DOMESTIC WORK- ERS IN BRAZIL. AS WELL AS GIRLS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES IN THE REGION ARE EXPLOITED IN DOMESTIC SERVITUDE.
